Mission Statement
The Mission
of our minister and that
of the congregation is that we
will continue to be a living, caring,
united
and joyful church, worshipping and serving
God in the community A
Church which seeks to minister to the people of the parishes,
in every walk
of life, at
every age, in times of need as well as
having the desire to
help people
find and strengthen their faith.
Participation by members of the congregations is encouraged at
Sunday morning worship. Scripture Readers are invited from members of the
congregation. On
occasions,
members of the congregation lead in prayer and worship. Elders
have helped with pulpit supply during the
absence of the minister. The minister is chaplain to the local primary
school at Strone and visits the school on a regular
basis. Joint
Sunday services take place during the year between our two
churches as well as with Kilmun (St. Munn’s)
Parish Church to which
we are linked, and
with whom we share the same minister. These
are on Remembrance Sunday, Christmas, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday,
Pentecost and the week of Christian Unity.
Some
members have expressed their desire for closer links between
both congregations.
There are
weekly
Bible Studies and Prayer Groups, “Lunchtime Discussions” in
Strone (St.
Columba's) Church Hall,
“Shore Sings Praise” services in Kilmun(St.
Munn's)
Church and sometimes in Ardentinny Church.
Special
events are planned for our young people.Strone
Church has "The Church Club" which has replaced the Sunday School for
children up to the age of 10 and
“The Lasers” for children of 11 to 13 years. They
meet on Sunday mornings in the church hall,
having attended part of the Sunday Worship.
The Kilmun Church (St. Munn’s) still
retain the name “Sunday School” for children attending Sunday Services.Together,
the parishes of Kilmun and Strone/Ardentinny publish a bi-monthly,
self-financing church magazine, “The
Shore Herald,” which has a wide distribution of more than 400
copies.
